A walk through Beijing's CBD – where modern China sets its pace

Internationalization is one of the strongest pillars of Beijing CBD and a key factor behind its global reputation. Surrounded by embassies, international organizations, chambers of commerce, business associations, and major international media institutions, the district has developed into one of China’s most globally connected business centers.

Beijing CBD is home to more than 4,000 foreign-funded enterprises, while its broader functional area hosts over 10,000 such companies, representing nearly one-third of all foreign-invested enterprises in Beijing. The district also accommodates 105 regional headquarters of multinational corporations and 455 headquarters enterprises. In addition, over 9,000 foreign trade companies operate within the area, alongside approximately 80 percent of Beijing’s international organizations and chambers of commerce. Major institutions such as the European Chamber, the American Chamber of Commerce in China, and the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry in China maintain an active presence here, making the district an important center for international cooperation and exchange.

As Beijing’s premier commercial district, the CBD contains more than half of the city’s Grade A office space and around 30 percent of its five-star hotels. It also hosts approximately 90 percent of Beijing’s international business exhibitions and half of the city’s international conferences, further reinforcing its role as a leading venue for global business activities.

Beijing CBD enjoys strong recognition on the international stage. As a vice-chair member of the GBD Innovation Club, it ranked seventh globally and second in Asia in the 2020 GBD Attractiveness Report, while maintaining its position as the highest-ranked CBD in China. Through the successful organization of the CBD Forum for more than two decades, the district has strengthened its status as an influential platform for international dialogue and cooperation.
